COVID-19 – Mental Fatigue and EMS Resilience

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge our emergency medical services system and workforce. Multiple stressors are further aggravating mental fatigue and “burnout” among EMS professionals. This session will describe factors impacting the psychological resilience of the EMS workforce and explore strategies to improve the health and wellness of our community.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge our emergency medical services system and workforce. Multiple stressors are further aggravating mental fatigue and “burnout” among EMS professionals. This session will describe factors impacting the psychological resilience of the EMS workforce and explore strategies to improve the health and wellness of our community. 

At the conclusion of the program, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss how the pandemic further contributed to mental fatigue and “burnout” among EMS professionals
  2. Describe strategies that can improve the “wellness” and psychological resilience of the EMS community
  3. Describe ways to normalize dialogue about mental health
  4. Describe strategies to normalize protective behaviors
