St. Louis Paramedic Nearly Drowns in Pool

ST. LOUIS (KTVI-FOX2now.com) – A St. Louis paramedic nearly drowned after having an apparent heart attack and falling into a swimming pool. 36-year-old Brenda Schaefer is listed in critical but stable condition Barnes Jewish Hospital.

The same people Schaefer works with everyday are the ones who saved her life. Paramedics and police surrounded the Southwest Crossing Apartments just before noon Thursday.

Inside the closed off courtyard, paramedics worked to revive one of their own.

Captain Bob Keuss said, “She is assigned to medic 32 and that one is the one who responded to the call.”

Keuss says it was an alert neighbor who first noticed Brenda Schaefer slip into the water.

“When they got to her she was face down with here head in the water and they got her out of the water and started CPR,” said Keuss.
