Williams worked for American Medical Response (AMR) since 1998, advancing rapidly to increasingly responsible senior executive positions, serving as vice president of operations in San Diego, chief operating officer and chief executive officer for various company divisions. He also served as operations section chief in AMR’s National Command Center for the company’s Department of Homeland Security FEMA contract.
In 2011, he was selected by AMR’s parent company, Emergency Medical Services Corporation, to lead and co-develop an innovative, new healthcare company, Evolution Health, which provides transitional, post-acute care for patients with significant health problems.
An active member of numerous boards and associations, Williams was the Region V alternate director of the American Ambulance Association (AAA) and chair of the AAA Foundation.
Recognized in the industry for his leadership and innovation, Williams received a number of awards, including the International Association of Fire Chief’s Award of Excellence in 2001, and the AMR President’s Award in 2006. According to his friends, one of his proudest accomplishments was when he was named one of 51 leaders invited to participate in the World Economic Forum Health Summit in Davos, Switzerland, where he discussed the worldwide implications of wireless healthcare technology.
Williams is survived by his sister Debbie. Funeral services were held May 4 in San Diego.
