Claremont police are investigating after responding to a report of an overdose involving a 9-month-old baby who allegedly ingested fentanyl, officials said.
Last week, first responders were dispatched to the area of Main and Union streets for a report of a 9-month-old child in a vehicle overdosing. Police believe the child ingested fentanyl.
Claremont Police Sgt. Michael Puksta arrived on scene and gave a “lifesaving dose” of Narcan to the child, Claremont police said in a news release.
Golden Cross Ambulance and Claremont Fire Department members arrived and transported the child to Valley Regional Hospital for emergency medical care. The infant was later flown via DHART helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
Claremont police are working with Charlestown officers in the investigation as the suspected ingestion occurred at a residence in Charlestown, police said.
“Criminal charges are forthcoming against an adult who was in the home with the child at the time of the ingestion,” Claremont police said in a news release.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Lt. John Graham of the Charlestown Police Department at 603-826-5747.
