Four Palestine Red Crescent Paramedics Killed in Gaza

Four Palestine Red Crescent paramedics were killed Wednesday while providing medical care in Gaza, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said.

The deaths occurred during two separate incidents reportedly within a 30 minute time frame, CNN reported.

The Palestinian Red Crescent’s director general said one paramedic was shot in the back as he was placing the dead into body bags.

“There is no way to mistake the teams, the medical teams with their protective emblem, their vests, their uniform, our cars, obviously, and confuse them with anything else, the group’s director, Marwan Jilani told Al Jazeera.

Following their deaths, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies issued a call reminding Israel and Palestine to respect international humanitarian law.

“This is non-negotiable. Civilians, healthcare workers, health facilities and civilian infrastructure must be respected and protected at all times,” it said in the statement. “They are not a target.”

On Saturday, an ambulance driver of Magen David Adom was killed during the initial attack on Israel.
