Four Injured in Idaho Campfire “˜Explosion’

Idaho Falls, ID – Four people were injured when a campfire exploded in the area of Kepps Crossing, east of Idaho Falls, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday.

According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, the incident first was reported at 10:09 p.m. Friday.

“It was reported that several people had gone to the area of Kepps Crossing to have a bonfire,” the release said. “While lighting the fire, one of the subjects threw gasoline onto the fire and caused an explosion, which (burned) the victims.”

The names, ages and hometowns of the four victims were withheld by the Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.

“Deputies were able to locate several vehicles (Friday night) that were transporting patients to the hospital on Sunnyside Road,” the release said. “There was a total of four patients and they were transported to the hospital by ambulance, as well as private vehicle.”

At some point, three of the victims were flown by air ambulance to the University of Utah Burn Center, the release said. The fourth victim reportedly was treated at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

No information was available on the medical conditions of the victims Saturday.
