AUGUSTA, Maine — A state legislative committee has approved a plan to help rural Maine hospitals hire more emergency medical technicians.
The Legislature’s Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee approved the proposal yesterday, the Associated Press reports.

Democratic Senate President Troy Jackson said the move will help fill gaps in the state’s health care worker shortage.
The full Maine Legislature still needs to vote on the proposal.
