JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Authorities say a man allegedly drove around barriers and struck three emergency responders working an accident scene, killing a firefighter and critically injuring a police officer and another firefighter.
Authorities say the crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday along U.S. 161 in Jacksonville. Little Rock television station KTHV reports (http://is.gd/ztCCh4 ) that one Jacksonville firefighter was pronounced dead at the scene. The other firefighter was taken by helicopter to a Little Rock hospital, while the police officer was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Authorities say both are in critical condition.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder. Police say the firefighters and police officer were responding to an accident involving the driver’s mother when the collision happened.
