Medics delivered a baby in the back of an ambulance in Hancock County early Sunday morning as heavy rain and flooding hit the area.
Around 1:30 a.m., Hancock County EMS received a call about a woman going into labor, Fordsville Fire Lieutenant Michelle Cooper told WEHT.
As the ambulance approached the intersection of Easton Road and Highway 54, it became clear that the baby was coming sooner than expected. Hancock County EMS personnel successfully delivered the baby girl inside the ambulance.
The severe weather, which brought six inches of rain to the area, created additional headaches as flooding and debris on parts of Highway 54 forced the ambulance to take an alternate route to the hospital. What would normally be a 20 to 25-minute drive turned into a run that lasted over an hour.
Both mother and baby were in good condition.
