The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office held a demonstration event this week of their new AED drone.
Crews put the drone to test Wednesday during a simulation where it launched from one spot, flew to the simulated “emergency” and dropped down the AED to the caller.
Over the phone, 911 communicators told the bystander how to give CPR, how to use the AED and what to do while she waited for medical responders, WFMY reported.
“In a cardiac arrest, every minute counts and drones can deliver a life-saving AED to the scene in minutes, where a 911 operator can instruct a caller on how to use it until first responders arrive,” the county government wrote on Facebook.
The drone is thanks to a partnership between Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services, Duke University Clinical Research Institute, Hovecon, AeroX and the American Heart Association.
