A 6-year-old South Jersey girl was in critical condition Friday after getting stuck in an adjustable bed in her home.
The girl became trapped in the mechanical bed base in her parents’ bedroom about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, the Egg Harbor Township Police Department said in a news release Friday.
“The base was putting pressure on her chest and affected her breathing,” the statement said. “The child lost consciousness and her father was able to pry the base open just enough for her to breathe again.”
Officers who responded to the Wedgewood Drive home were able to free the child after disassembling the bed’s base.
The girl was treated by first responders at the scene, then flown by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
More information on the bed, including the name of the manufacturer, was not available.
