Physio-Control Inc. LUCAS 2

Manual CPR has been shown to be inconsistent at best, detrimental atàœworst. Arguably, the best way to get a consistent rate and depth of compression is to use a mechanical device. TheàœLUCAS 2 fromàœPhysio-Control Inc.àœis a battery-operated mechanical CPR device. The rescuer places the base plate underneath the patient, then attaches LUCAS 2 and positions it above the patientàŒs sternum. You only need to use two fingers to place the piston on the chest, and then start the compression cycle. The molded compression piece thatàŒs in contact with the sternum optimizes chest expansion afteràœeach compression. Compressions are easily switched from the 30:2 ratioàœfor BLS to continuous once an advanced airway is in place.
