Woodbridge (NJ) Launches New EMS Service with Two Ambulances, 10 EMTs

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — The Woodbridge Police Department has launched a new emergency medical service featuring two fully equipped ambulances and 10 recently hired emergency medical technicians. The ambulances went into service on Nov. 4 to supplement existing paid and volunteer first aid squads in Avenel, Colonia, Port Reading, and Woodbridge, according to TAPinto.net.

The new ambulances are based at the Fords Fire Department on King George Road. Mayor John E. McCormac emphasized the importance of public safety, stating, “No one should measure anyone’s life by dollars and cents. In emergencies, people must know that help is on the way,” he told Tapinto.net.

The initiative, which includes $200,000 for ambulances, is part of the township’s 2025 fiscal budget. The cost of EMT salaries and benefits is still being calculated, but officials noted that savings from reduced municipal contributions to first aid squads have already totaled $122,000.

Woodbridge is also pursuing grants and other funding sources to offset expenses and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
