Dec. 1—Four people were wounded in a shooting on Canal Street at the edge of the French Quarter early Sunday morning, roughly 6 hours after another person was wounded on the same street a few blocks away, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police were called to the 700 block of Canal Street shortly before 2:30 a.m., where they found four victims wounded by gunfire. Paramedics transported the victims to a hospital, police said.

Police did not immediately release more information.

The shooting followed five others reported across the city Saturday that left two men and a child dead and four others wounded, including a man who was shot on Canal Street at around 8:45 p.m.

Another shooting that was initially reported on Canal Street at 7:30 p.m. was later found to have occurred in the 200 block of Bourbon Street, police said.
