Video: Armed Man Confronts Police at Utah House Fire

West Jordan police on Friday were investigating how a New Year’s Eve domestic disturbance escalated into responding officers battling with an armed arsonist as his house was gutted by flames.

Public safety dispatchers say the initial 911 call came in about 5:40 p.m. Thursday from the residence near 6700 South and 3200 West.

Armed with a weapon West Jordan police would not initially specify, the man fought with several officers, who reportedly suffered minor smoke inhalation while subduing him.

However, it was too late to save the home, deemed a total loss from the blaze allegedly set by the man. West Jordan firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to adjacent property.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of both smoke inhalation and purported self-inflicted injuries.

Other residents of the home had fled before police arrived.

West Jordan Police Sgt. Jeff Jukes said the incident was still under investigation on Friday, and he did not know the suspect’s name or current condition, or when he might be booked into jail.
