An ambulance struck and killed a pedestrian early Tuesday morning in Salinas, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Abbott Street, south of Harris Road, KSBW reports. Authorities said a female pedestrian stepped into the roadway in front of a southbound American Medical Response Ford Transit ambulance for reasons still under investigation.
The ambulance driver, a 33-year-old resident of Templeton, swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, but the front right side of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, according to CHP. The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The victim’s name and age have not been released.
