First responders already wear latex gloves on calls. The dispatcher may then tell crews to wear masks, face shields and protective suits based on the type of call, said Sean Ferguson, an inspector with the county.

KABC-TV reports the county’s fire department has been giving regular updated to its staff to make sure everyone has the latest information and guidelines available.

Hospitals in the area are also working to make sure similar procedures are in place to protect staff and patients.
