FDNY Medical Special Operations Conference Planned for May 16-18, 2014

The FDNY, in partnership with the FDNY Foundation, is hosting the 2nd annual Medical Special Operations Conference (MSOC). This conference serves as an important venue for Military, Federal, State and Local medical operators and planners to share experiences. It will also provide an opportunity to learn from other stakeholders and obtain insights from experts in the field on how to improve the response framework within the medical special operations community.

The MSOC will take place over two days consisting of workshops, lectures, panel discussions, hands-on skills and a vendor’s showcase with some of the latest equipment and products. An optional one day pre-conference workshop is available that will include a hands-on bio-skills cadaver lab, Canine critical care workshop and a visit to the World Trade Center site.

Target Audience:
Medical professionals working in Urban Search & Rescue, Disaster Medicine, Civilian and Military Special Operations Environments.

The FDNY Medical Special Operations Conference (MSOC) is a unique conference that will provide a platform for medical personnel from around the world who provide patient care under disaster and urban search and rescue conditions to learn and take away valuable lessons.

The two-day MSOC will consist of workshops, lectures, panel discussions, hands-on skills and a vendor’s showcase featuring some of the latest equipment and products.

Optional one-day preconference workshops are also being offered that will feature a hands-on bio-skills cadaver lab, special patient populations lecture, swift water rescue awareness certification, and a visit to the World Trade Center site.

Conference lecturers and skill instructors will include experienced FDNY members, joined by physicians, medical specialists, educators and leadership from some of the top Urban Search and Rescue teams in the United States.

In addition to exceptional hands-on skills and scenario workshops, instructors will present topics and discuss past disaster experiences, revealing successful strategies, equipment, and technology used at rescue operations and skills that have proven to improve patient care and outcomes.

Directions from Staten Island
Take the New Jersey Turnpike to exit 13 East. Cross the Goethals Bridge to the Staten Island Expressway I-278 East.
Remain on I-278 E across the Verrazano Bridge. Take the Gowanus Expwy (I-278 E) and merge onto the Brooklyn Queens Expwy (I-278 E).
Keep left at the fork and follow signs for RFK (Triboro) Bridge I-87 Bronx.
Keep to the right on the RFK (Triboro) bridge and follow signs for the Randall’s Island exit towards Wards Island. Exit to the right after the toll booth and follow signs for the FDNY Training Academy.
Directions from the Bronx and Westchester
Take Hutchinson River Pkwy south to exit 4S, I-95 South. Keep right at the fork to continue to I-95 S.
Follow signs for I-278 W Bruckner Expressway. Take the exit toward FDR/Manhattan. Merge onto the RFK (Triboro) Bridge.
Keep right and take the Randall’s Island exit towards Wards Islands. Follow sign to FDNY Academy.
Directions from Queens/Long Island
Take the Long Island Expressway I-495 West to Exist 22 Grand Central Pkwy to the RFK (Triboro) Bridge. Stay to the right on the RFK bridge and follow signs for Randall’s Island towards Ward Island.
Exit to the right after the toll booth and follow signs to FDNY training Academy.
Directions from midtown Manhattan
The only way onto Randall’s Island is via the RFK Bridge (formerly the Triboro Bridge) Take the FDR Drive north to exit 17 (exit is on the left) This will put you directly on to the bridge.

Take to the toll plaza. Exit for Randall’s Island is on the far left as you exit the toll plaza. If using EZ Pass stay towards the left side of the plaza. The exit to Randall’s Island will be in front of you.

If using the cash lanes on the right you will have to get all the way over to your left to get to the off ramp for Randall’s Island. Once at the bottom of the off ramp make a right turn.  Follow this roadway. You will pass through two stop signs. At the second stop sign bear to your left. The entrance to the Fire Academy will be in front of you.
