East TN Medical Students Fundraise Thousands for PPE for State Hospitals

According to a report from WATE6, three Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) medical students are giving back to frontline health care workers through Medical Students for COVID-19 Support Tennessee to raise funds to buy and donate personal protective equipment (PPE).

The students–Elizabeth Taylor, Priya Dharampuriya, and Amy Rousselot–entering their second year at the school, set a goal of $1,000 through an online fundraiser. However, the donations grew well beyond that number.

They received donations from LMU students and faculty as well as family members that total more than $9,000. That money was then put directly back to PPE purchases for East Tennessee hospitals like Tennova Healthcare and Covenant Health Supply Chain.

The need for PPE is not limited to East Tennessee, however; Taylor said the group has sights set on expanding to provide support for hospitals in Chattanooga, too.
