A Beacon Falls (CT) ambulance caught fire Monday afternoon while a patient was in the back of the rig.

The ambulance “experienced an engine-compartment fire while on a medical response” on Blackberry Hill Road, according to Beacon Hose Co. #1.

The ambulance was on its way to Waterbury Hospital when smoke began to come out of the engine and into the cab.

“Luckily there were no injuries and the patient was successfully transported with our other ambulance,” the fire department said. “We appreciate the help rendered by our first responders and other bystanders while Engine 3 was en route to the scene — they helped remove some of our expensive equipment from the back of the ambulance.”
