Ambulance Accident in Utah Injures 11 People

HURRICANE, Utah (AP) – A collision between an ambulance and van in southern Utah critically injured an 8-year-old Swiss girl and injured 10 others.

Serena Affolter remains in critical condition at a hospital, where she was flown after the Saturday night accident in Hurricane.

The Utah Highway Patrol says she was riding with her parents and sister when their van was struck by an ambulance on State Route 9.

The van was turning at an intersection on a green light when it was hit by the ambulance, which had its sirens and emergency lights on.

The ambulance was carrying a stroke victim and his wife as well as five crew members.

All other injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Ambulance driver Lizzie Barlow was cited on suspicion of violating a traffic control signal.
