Student Doctors at Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine Unveil Mobile Medical Clinic

According to a report from Idaho Press, student doctors at Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine have transformed a shipping container into a mobile medical clinic that will soon be headed to Mexico to serve a community existing in extreme poverty.

For the past two years, the student doctors have used their spare time to build a mobile medical clinic that features two exam rooms and a hybrid lobby/office area. The modular clinic will be transported to Lomas de San Isidro, Mexico. The unit will be sent by a shipping seafaring shipping container donated by Engineered Structures Inc. The building materials were donated by Franklin Building Supply.

From Meridian, the shipping container will be transported to Abilene, Texas, where the medical equipment will be added before making the journey to Mexico. Once it reaches its final destination the finishing touches, including windows and a front door, will be added.

The transportation, relocation, and implementation of the medical clinic will be aided through a partnership with the nonprofit groups Homes of Living Hope and Urban Mosaic. After the clinic arrives in Lomas de San Isidro, it will accommodate approximately 1,000 patients each year and provide 300 families access to health care.
