MedStar Named EMS Provider of the Year

Fort Worth — September 12, 2013
MedStar Mobile Healthcare in Fort Worth, Texas was awarded the Paid Emergency Medical Services Provider of the Year by the National Association of EMTs and EMS World Magazine at their national EMS World Expo Conference on September 11, 2013.  
 
The National Awards of Excellence program recognizes providers who have exemplified excellence and leadership in the emergency medical services profession.  Award nominations are selected by a panel of EMS leaders from across the nation.
 
Douglas Hooten, Executive Director of MedStar, received the award on behalf of MedStar’s 350 employees at the ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.  “We are blessed at MedStar to have an amazing team.  Our Governing Board, our Medical Control Authority, our healthcare community partners and the 350 MedStar team members continuously seek patient centered innovation every day.  These folks are truly committed to transforming not only our agency, but our entire profession.” explains Mr. Hooten.  “This recognition is a reflection of our mission is to be a World Class mobile healthcare provider and to help lead the industry in providing mobile healthcare services.”  
 
In presenting the award, Scott Cravens, EMS World’s Publisher cited MedStar’s numerous innovations designed to change “emergency medical services” to “˜Mobile Integrated Healthcare’.  “We are thrilled that the nomination review panel selected MedStar for this Award of Excellence.  MedStar has been instrumental in helping our entire profession transform from traditional “EMS” into the new role as mobile healthcare providers, fully integrated into the healthcare system to assist healthcare stakeholders navigate our new healthcare environment.  
 
Fort Worth City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem Zim Zimmerman – who also chairs the MedStar Board — explains, “MedStar, its employees, leadership team and Medical Directors, Dr. Jeff Beeson and Dr. Steven Davis, are simply not satisfied with status quo.  They see the opportunities to implement new care models that are able to demonstrate better care for the patient, a better patient experience and reduce the cost of care.  They are not afraid to make bold changes to how we operate.  We are fortunate that Ft. Worth and the other member cities that are part of the MedStar System have such innovators working in and for our community” said Mr. Zimmerman.
