WI College Introduces Training Mannequins for Medics that Teach Empathy

Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) is using a cutting-edge training tool to better prepare future first responders for real-world emergencies.

The paramedic training program has introduced 13 advanced LifeCast mannequins, funded through a grant from The General Foundation, TMJ4 News reports.

Unlike traditional mannequins, these new models can breathe, bleed, vomit, and even simulate drowning scenarios. They are also designed to resemble people of various ages, races, and with special needs—including a mannequin representing a Down syndrome patient—to provide students with more realistic and challenging training opportunities.

The lifelike mannequins also help foster empathy among students by making training scenarios feel more authentic.
