DC to Open First Public Paramedic Training Center to Address Growing Demand

Washington, D.C. is set to open its first public training center for paramedics next year to address shortage of emergency medical professionals.

The new facility will have capacity to train between 50 and 75 paramedics each year, NBC 4 reports.

The initiative is a collaboration between the D.C. Fire and EMS and the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). Tuition will be free for D.C. firefighters, while other D.C. residents can apply for financial aid to cover costs for the three-semester program.

The university is preparing to have the program accredited before it begins operating in 2026.
