MDFR’s team quickly advanced to the finals on Thursday, July 2nd, where they took first place, making them the 2009 World ALS Champions. “This victory is a distinguished accomplishment and a living testimony of our continuous dedication to EMS and public safety,” said Fire Chief Herminio Lorenzo.
The Bill Shearer International Basic and Advanced Life Support Competition is the largest EMS competition in the world. Competing in this event requires the best emergency medical technician (EMT) and paramedic teams to train for every possible EMS scenario ranging from automobile collisions to complicated childbirths. These competitions play a vital role in preparing EMS personnel to work in challenging environments and create an educational experience that will help them provide the highest quality pre-hospital care to patients.
