“This is an exciting opportunity for the community to shape the future of the EMS profession,” said NREMT Chief Testing Officer Greg Applegate.
The new initiative enables volunteers to assist with a variety of National EMS Certification examination processes.
Volunteers may be selected to draft or review items and scenarios for cognitive and psychomotor examinations, or they may be selected to assist with the standard setting and practice analysis procedures for each National EMS Certification level. Each opportunity offers volunteers the chance to make a direct impact on the professional national EMS landscape.
“The NREMT takes a transparent and collaborative approach to the development and validation of our examination content,” said Applegate. “The campaign’s slogan – “Let’s Write the Future Together” – is a genuine reflection of our goals. In developing National EMS Certification examinations, it is imperative that every voice of EMS community be heard.”
All volunteer opportunities requiring travel to the NREMT headquarters will feature a fully-funded travel package including food and lodging. Participants may also be eligible for continuing education credit toward their next NREMT recertification period.
The new volunteer initiative marks a renewed emphasis on collaboration between the NREMT and the national EMS industry. EMS professionals of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to visit volunteer.nremt.org to learn more and to apply.

Since its founding in 1970, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) has offered the nation assurance that the men and women providing emergency treatment in the out-of-hospital setting are capable of providing the care that patients and their loved ones deserve.
