Dr. Donald Gaylor was co-medical director of the Eastern PA EMS Council during my tenure there from 1975-1992. He mentored me and helped me navigate the maze of politics, federal grant preparation, policies of hospital’s government officials and the medical community. Please read this great man’s entire obituary to see his love for EMS at a time when he clearly could have stayed retired from his distinguished career in the Navy.
He was recruited to come out of retirement to serve as chief of surgery at three separate hospitals at the same time and help build a world class EMS System in Eastern Pennsylvania – which he did. Please honor me and John Kloss by honoring Dr. Gaylor with an EMS Unit in his funeral procession on Thursday.
John Kloss’ note
EMS Leaders,
It is with a heavy heart the Eastern PA EMS Council announces the passing of Dr. Donald H. Gaylor. Having amassed an incredible resume during both his professional and personal life, Dr. Gaylor maintained a leading role in the regional EMS systems early development and worked tirelessly to advance trauma care and EMS education across not only our region, but the commonwealth as well.
The development of our regional EMS System dates back many decades, however our future lies in the hands of those that worked to bring us todays trauma centers, the expanded role of EMS, and simply the vision of what our EMS System has evolved into today.
Please join us in remembering Dr. Gaylor and thank him, and his family for his accomplishments and commitment to EMS. The family has been consulted and would be honored to have the EMS Community represented by hosting a procession of EMS units, passing by the church following his memorial service this Thursday in Allentown at approximately 12:15pm.
We need your help and request EMS Agencies, dedicate an EMS unit to join this procession as we say goodbye to an American hero. ( Obituary | Donald “Don” H. Gaylor, MD | Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Homes, P.C. (bkrfh.com)
