New Hybrid Course Aims to Boost VT EMS Workforce

With Vermont facing a shortage of emergency medical services (EMS) workers, a new program is making it easier for residents—especially in rural areas—to get certified.

Green Mountain Tech and Career Center is launching an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) hybrid course on March 24, blending online learning with hands-on training to increase accessibility for Vermonters across the state, WCAX reports.

The program, in partnership with Northern Vermont Area Health Education Center, is open to anyone aged 17 and up.

Instructor Kevin Adams, who will lead the course, says rural areas face the biggest EMS shortages.

The hybrid format allows participants to learn both in person at Hyde Park and remotely via Zoom, making it more feasible for those in remote communities to complete their certification without traveling long distances.
