Austin, TX – Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) launches a new Fall Prevention program on Thursday September 22, 2016 that coincides with the first day of Fall and National Falls Prevention Awareness Week September 22-28, 2016. The ATCEMS program helps support ready, steady and balanced lifestyles for senior adults.
“Older adults want to stay active, independent, and safe in their homes, but many worry about their risk of falling” says ATCEMS Captain Randy Chhabra “In fact, one in three Americans over the age of 65 falls every year.”
The ATCEMS Fall Prevention program is a combination of education, home safety assessments, and community support for aging adults. A team of trained ATCEMS Fall Prevention Home Technicians conduct FREE home safety assessments to identify potential risks and hazards for slips, trips and falls in the home environment to eligible seniors. During the home assessment a team member provides the program participant with additional education and connects them to local community resources. For more information about the ATCEMS Fall Prevention program or to schedule a free Home Safety Assessment visit the ATCEMS website.
