RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – An autopsy shows the body of a Clayton woman found inside her car after it was towed to an impound lot had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 percent, and suggests she may not have lived long after the crash.
Autopsy details were released Thursday by the state chief medical examiner’s office.
The autopsy showed 62-year-old Carolyn Ann Watkins suffered blunt force injuries to the head and neck, and that injuries to her spinal cord likely would have impaired her ability to breathe and led to her rapid death.
Watkins was reported missing three days after her car was discovered in a ditch near Smithfield on March 29. At the time, a state Highway Patrol trooper wrote in a report that there was no driver at the scene of the collision.
