Solicitors Pose as EMTs for Scam

LAKE-SUMTER, Fla. — Lake-Sumter EMS officials say some residents have received calls from solicitors identifying themselves as “local EMTs” and asking for private and personal information.

A statement put out by Lake-Sumter EMS states: “This is suspected to be a scam and is not affiliated with Lake-Sumter EMS in any way.”

The agency went on to say that although Lake-Sumter EMS is a nonprofit organization, it does not solicit public donations by mail, e-mail or phone.

People who think they are a victim of a scam are urged to contact law enforcement.
