Joe Hoban, a decorated firefighter and paramedic with the Scranton (PA) Fire Department, suddenly passed away, friends and loved ones said.
He was 58, according to his obituary.
Hoban served for over 34 years in the fire department, most recently receiving his rank of Inspector. Hoban was a founding team member of the fire department’s elite Rescue 1 unit.
“He had a passion for this job like no other. He brought with him a wealth of knowledge from his time in the EMS world which he utilized during his time as a member of Rescue 1,” the Scranton firefighters union wrote on Facebook. “Once he obtained his rank of Inspector, in typical Hoban fashion, he excelled in his field. He took to the duties without hesitation and did so with pride and professionalism.”
Hoban is survived by his wife and two children.
