It took authorities more than 45 minutes Sunday to free a man trapped under an overturned tractor.
Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle accident just west of Judge Ely Boulevard and just south of East Stamford Street about 4:20 p.m., according to a statement from Lt. Greg Goettsch, spokesman for the Abilene Fire Department.
There they found a 69-year-old man, who was not named, trapped under the tractor.
The department’s Technical Rescue Team was called in. Other responding to the call included Abilene police.
Meanwhile, fire department medics treated the 69-year-old man while rescuers worked to free him, Goettsch said. Ground conditions and instability of the tractor made the going slow.
Also involved in the accident was a trailer transporting a propane tank. The tank leaked a small amount of propane, Goettsch said, but did not pose a danger to the area.
The man was taken to a hospital with what are Goettsch believed were “relatively minor injuries.”
