Technical Rescue in Virginia Saves Tractor-Trailer Driver

CHESAPEAKE, Va. –  A tractor-trailer driver is lucky to be alive thanks to a technical rescue by firefighters on the I-64 Highrise Bridge, as reported by WAVY.

Virginia State Police said the crash happened at 8:43 a.m. A tractor-trailer hit the wall of the bridge causing the cab to hang off the side.

Chesapeake Fire officials said a technician was lowered over the bridge to harness the driver and lift him to safety.

The rescue was done 70 feet above the Elizabeth River as severe thunderstorms blew through with high winds.
