KOB – Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the Embudo Arroyo in Northeast Albuquerque near Morrison and Candelaria to search for a young male swept away in the drainage ditch. Firefighters stationed at a number of vantage points tracked the 16 year old until they were able to reach him near Morningside by throwing rope, which the teen caught, and pulling him to safety. He was then transported to a nearby hospital and evaluated for minor injuries. The entire operation took under an hour. A spokesperson for the Albuquerque Fire Department says the teen was walking in the arroyo at Candelaria and Juan Tabo, was hit by a wall of water, and floated possibly between five to seven miles. Recent rainfall has swelled the city’s arroyos and increased the danger of injury to residents.
