Police: Patient Steals Brownsville (TX) Ambulance, Flees to Mexico

Police in Mexico have recovered an ambulance stolen from Texas, according to authorities.

The Brownsville Police Department said in a Facebook post the stolen ambulance is back in the United States and the investigation remains active.

Police did not name the suspect or say if there were any arrests.

Both Brownsville Police Department and Brownsville Fire Department responded Sunday morning to the 2000 block of International Boulevard about a man complaining of abdominal pain, according to KTSM.

The man asked to be taken to the hospital and allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off, according to reports. Police say the man drove toward the international boarder and crashed into barriers before escaping into Mexico. No injuries were reported.

Tamaulipas State Police were alerted by security personnel at the Brownsville & Matamoros Express International Bridge that an ambulance crashed through the security gate, according to KRGV.

The stolen ambulance was later reported abandoned near the San Joaquin Funeral Park.
