PLEASANT HILLS, Penn. — A 9/11 first responder with just days left to live is hoping to move into his newly renovated home with his wife, according to a report.
Nick and Margaret Ursta both answered the call as EMTs back in 2001, helping at ground zero and breathing in contaminated air for a week, KDKA-TV reported.
Nick started getting sick in late 2017 and went to the hospital last year with what he thought was pneumonia. Doctors told him his cancer was because of asbestos exposure, the station reported.
With Nick too sick to continue work on home renovations, volunteers stepped up to donate materials and time to finish the work.
The goal is to have the house finished by the time the Steelers play the Dolphins on October 28.
