MI Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Hit by Pickup Truck

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit by a pickup truck in Hudsonville on Friday evening.

The crash was reported at 7:14 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, on 32nd Avenue near New Holland Street, according to a news release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The pedestrian, a 71-year-old Hudsonville man, was not in a designated crosswalk when he was crossing 32nd Avenue on foot, according to the release. The man said he saw oncoming traffic but thought he had enough time to cross the road, sheriff’s deputies said.

The man was struck by a pickup truck that had just turned south onto 32nd Avenue. The driver of the pickup, a 59-year-old Hudsonville man, did not see the pedestrian crossing the road before he struck him, the release said.

The 71-year-old was taken to Metro Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries from the crash/

Hudsonville City Fire and LIFE EMS Ambulance assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene of the crash.
