New Hampshire to Close Down 10 of 14 Flex Medical Sites

According to a report from WMUR9, all but four of the flex medical sites–Manchester, Plymouth, Littleton, and Durham–set up in the state of New Hampshire that were meant to handle a potential surge in COVID-19 cases will close.

At this point, the need for hundreds of extra hospital beds hasn’t occurred during the coronavirus pandemic. Back in March, the state was bracing for a major impact from COVID-19 and the potential that state hospitals would be overwhelmed.

Governor Chris Sununu toured the sites set up around the state where patients, convalescing from coronavirus infections, would be safely treated. However, these beds have gone unused, and long-term care facilities are now more readily being used. This will result in the closing of 10 flex sites.

Although the other sites can flex back open if needed, officials say it would require a dramatic increase in the number of COVID-19 illnesses.
