NEW CASTLE, DE: The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division of the New Castle County
Department of Public Safety hosted their annual EMS Graduation and Appointment Ceremony on
Monday, May 20th at the Public Safety Headquarters facility in New Castle. Ten (10) Emergency
Medical Services Division personnel were honored by county officials including County Executive
Thomas P. Gordon at the event, which coincided with the Presidential proclamation designating May
19-25 as National Emergency Medical Services Week.
“I know the difficulty and hardship it took you and your families to obtain your paramedic
certification,” stated County Executive Thomas P. Gordon. “We pledge our support as you deliver a
vital service to the citizens of New Castle County.”
Paramedics Christopher L. Boyles, David A. Buswell, Craig J. Lindell and Hilary R. Olner were
recognized as graduates of the Delaware Technical and Community College Paramedic Class of
2011-2012. Paramedics Brian C. Bradford, Brian K. Giles, Robert J. Tomchak, Jr., Bryan P.
Stafford, Scott B. Kier and William G. Greenley were recognized for their successful completion of
the field evaluation process following their appointment to the Emergency Medical Services
Division. The latter six (6) paramedics were recruited from other states, including New Jersey,
Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Massachusetts.
“A career in emergency medical services is noble,” said Chief Lawrence E. Tan of the New Castle
County Paramedics, as he referenced Abraham Lincoln’s quotation that “˜next to creating a life, the
finest thing a man can do is save one.’ “Each of you has the opportunity to participate in that noble
concept every time you put on the uniform and report for duty,” Tan stated.
New Castle County EMS is a career paramedic service within the county Department of Public
Safety that is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services
(CAAS). The agency has an authorized staff of 117 personnel, including 95 paramedics.
