Bernard Robinson, a regional director for Northwell Health’s Center for Emergency Medical Services (NY), survived a battle with COVID-19 and is now being honored this weekend by a NASCAR racer.
Kurt Busch will place Robinson’s name on the passenger side of his vehicle as he races in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia, on Saturday.

Newsday reports Robinson contracted the virus in March and spent nearly a week in the hospital battling the illness. He was back on the job two weeks later.
“It’s awesome,” Robinson told the newspaper. “I am very excited. To be part of NASCAR is not something I ever thought I’d do.”
The 50-year-old Robinson stepped aside from his administrative duties in March to rejoin paramedics in the field as the virus began to sweep through the region. Robinson believes he contracted the virus during a patient transport.
Robinson said he still struggles with the lingering effects of the virus.
