Nov. 18—The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-vehicle crash that happened Sunday at the intersection of highways 64 and Q in Bloomer.

Chong Xiong, 62, of North St. Paul, Minnesota, was the driver and sole occupant of the truck that crashed.

The truck caught fire, officials say and Xiong was helped out of his truck by a good Samaritan.

“Units responded and discovered that a truck was West bound on STH 64 when the truck left the roadway and collided with multiple trees causing heavy front-end damage,” the release says. “The truck subsequently became engulfed in flames.”

Xiong was airlifted from the scene due to injuries and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment, a Sunday night release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says.

The crash is currently still under investigation by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.

The intersection was temporarily closed for crash investigators.

Agencies involved in the crash response included the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Bloomer Police, Bloomer Fire, Bloomer EMS, Chippewa Falls EMS, Chippewa Fire District Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter.
