Michigan Boy Loses Toes in Mower Accident

TAYLOR, Mich. — A Taylor mother said it was her 11-year-old son’s first time cutting the lawn Sunday afternoon when he accidentally cut off three of his toes.

Sarah Rigotti said she was resting inside her home on the 15000 block of Vivian Street at around 3 p.m. when she heard her son, Joey, scream from outside.

“I heard a high-pitched sound, pain,” she said.

Rigotti said her 13-year-old son, Tim, was in charge of showing Joey how to use the mower, but that Joey was wearing flip flops and had rolled the mower over his foot.

“I just heard a scream and I started sprinting to him,” Tim Rigotti said. “It was kind of nasty. Like, his left foot , his little toe and his middle toe were off you could see the bone sticking out it was really nasty.”

The boy was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where Rigotti said she was told doctors were going to try to reattach the toes.
