A man screamed for help as he clung onto a cliff edge high above a California beach, dramatic video shows.

California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division Air Operations shared video of the man “struggling” on the edge of the cliff over Baker Beach in San Francisco.

The San Francisco Fire Department received the 911 call reporting the man’s predicament just before 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, the agency said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Information about how the man ended up on the cliff was not available.

Video from the helicopter shows a rescuer lowering down to the man on the sheer cliff as waves roll in below. The rescuer secures the man and the helicopter hoists them from the cliff down to the beach, where San Francisco fire personnel assessed him for injuries.

“Fortunately the victim wasn’t injured and he refused any medical attention,” the fire department said.

“Definitely not a hiking trail!” someone said in the comments on Golden Gate Air Operations’ video on Instagram.

Baker Beach is in northwestern San Francisco.
