A medical transport overturned Saturday morning in Kentucky and landed the EMS provider behind the wheel in handcuffs.

The NetCare ambulance rolled over in a single-vehicle accident along U.S. 23, the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office told WSAZ.

The provider driving the ambulance, 38-year-old Patrick Todd Jarrell, a caregiver in the back and the patient were not hurt.

The man driving the ambulance first told responding officers a deer ran out in front of the vehicle. Deputies said the man’s story kept changing.

Police conducted a field sobriety test on Jarrell and arrested the driver under suspicion of DUI. The sheriff’s office said he could be facing additional charges once the investigation is complete.
