Illinois Firefighter Dies While Performing CPR

MATTESON, Ill. (WGN) – A firefighter in South suburban Matteson died while performing CPR on a shopper at Walmart.
 
The firefighter was called to the store at 21410 S. Cicero Avenue in Matteson Friday afternoon for a medical emergency.

The Sun-Times identified the firefighter as 49-year-old Mark Zielinski.

He had been with the Matteson Fire Department for 13 years, after spending many years working for the fire department in Harvey.

His cause of death has not been determined.

Indiana State Police and Fort Wayne Police are investigating a crash involving a TRAA ambulance that occurred late Thursday morning on I-69.

Authorities are investigating the death of Peter Forrest, 64, an employee of Marquee Ambulette, a Nassau County-based patient transportation company.
