Versatile, Variable Lighting
Paramedics and EMTs like tools that can do many different jobs, because we never know what we’re going to see on scene. Will you need a spotlight to help search an area, a floodlight to illuminate an entire room, or a clip light that can direct light exactly where you need it? The versatile Pelican 3410M Right Angle Light can do all three, allowing you to switch between spot, floor or both beams, and you can adjust the output for high, medium and low settings with a single push-button switch. Its glow-in-the-dark body makes it very easy to find during a power failure, and its magnetic clip makes it easy to attach to clothing, a belt or any metal surface.

Personal Light Bar
Even with the introduction of ANSI-compliant reflective vests, we still have a high risk of being injured while operating on the roadway. One way to increase our visibility is to add personal lighting to our ensemble. As its name suggests, the new 100 Series from Guardian Angel sits on your shoulder to make sure you can be seen–and keep you safe. Boasting 18 LED lights, available in a variety of colors and switchable from flash to steady, you can both ensure visibility while moving and also illuminate your work scene. Easy-to-use controls allow you to change between flashing emergency mode or a steady front light with flashing rear lights for a scene operations mode. A brightness switch lets you shift between brightness levels for extended run times of 4—65 hours.

Tactically Organized
Tactical medics operate in an environment of extreme risk. They’re working alongside SWAT officers who secure a scene from active shooters and other threats. A tactical medic can’t bring in a massive first-in bag with everything they might possibly need on a call. Their equipment needs to be “high speed, low drag,” with the basic essentials needed to save a life prior to extraction from the warm zone. The new TEMS Entry Aid Bag from Eleven 10 Gear is a compact, highly organized bag which brings the trauma lifesaving essentials of airway management and bleeding control in with the team. The TEMS Entry Aid Bag can be integrated into most external body armor carriers and its quick-release buckles allow you to begin treatment in seconds.

Wearable Tourniquet
During the shooting in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, 2017, there were many reports of off-duty police officers, bystanders, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics using their belts as tourniquets to save dozens of lives. These improvised tourniquets can work, but they’re often difficult to tighten adequately and may not provide the correct circumferential pressure, which could cause unwanted soft tissue damage. The new Parabelt from RevMedx incorporates a ratcheting tourniquet into a nylon duty belt. Now when you remove your belt to provide the lifesaving bleeding control of a tourniquet, you don’t have to worry about proper tension or gaps in coverage.

Organized Glove Notes
There’s a lot of data to collect during even the most routine EMS call. Demographics, vital signs and medication times are just some of the basics. Sometimes we record this on a tablet computer or a notepad, but many of us often use the back of an exam glove. The new Ready Glove from TacMed Australia adds some structure to your glove notetaking. Imprinted on the front and back of the disposable, non-sterile, nitrile glove are places to record Glasgow coma scale, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, oxygen saturation, temperature and any drugs given. The glove is thicker than standard medical exam gloves and has ribbed fingertips for better grip.
