Stolen Ambulance Driven with Sirens On and No Lights

HUNTINGTON — Cabell County EMS takes an average of 26,000 calls per year. Early Friday morning, a routine call ended in an unexpected outcome.

While helping a woman inside Vanity Fair Apartments on Fourth Avenue in Huntington, EMTs left the ambulance running with keys in the ignition, a routine procedure. “We leave the ambulances running so we don’t have to worry about them starting again. So we have good access to them and can get the patient into it and to the hospital at a timely manner,” said Cabell County EMS Director Gordon Merry.
