SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and American Medical Response’s San Diego division have dispatched an Ambulance Strike Team to Calexico, Calif. to assist in the delivery of emergency medical care to victims of Sunday’s 7.2-magnitude earthquake.
The five-ambulance strike team was requested because of an increasing number of injured victims being brought across the U.S./Mexico border into Calexico by individuals and agencies whose local EMS resources and hospitals are overtaxed by the volume of injuries that need to be managed.
The organized Ambulance Strike Team is responding with ambulances and supervisory vehicles specially stocked to be self-sufficient for 72 hours without backup support, food or resources.
